Potter's House - DC's quintessential coffee house/bookstore

The quintessential social issues-oriented café/coffee house in DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood, with a broad selection of books on social issues, from The Open Veins of Latin America published in 1971 by Uruguayan journalist and poet Eduardo Galeano at the height of the 1960s/70s socialist intellectual wave in South America, to The Climate Book a collection of essays by experts edited by Geta Thunberg in 2022.

Potter’s House describes its mission as,

“…providing good food and conversation to all regardless of means…our bookstore specializes in curation of social movements, justice and equity, cultural studies, and spiritual traditions…We have been serving tens of thousands of free meals each year to those in need, and rely on your support to keep our welcoming doors open to all.”

The food is good, and the selection of books is difficult to find elsewhere.  Plenty of seating outside and inside along the windows.  Good in any weather.  No rush.  Bring your laptop.  Adams Morgan is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in DC.  Plenty of funky places and attractive residential side streets.
