Outstanding DC Bookstores - Kramer's Bookstore
Kramer’s Bookstore
With its selection of books, cozy cafe and restaurant, solarium patio, bar, and a history of visits from notables like Barack Obama and Maya Angelou, Kramer’s Bookstore is an iconic D.C. institution.
Open daily from 8am - 10pm (9pm on Sundays), it’s a gathering spot for locals, tourists, students, and politicians, hosting author events and serving as a community hub. Often crowded, it complements the Bohemian vibe of the Dupont Circle neighborhood.
"Our menu is as eclectic as our book collections, serving Breakfast All Day and everything from Crab Deviled Eggs and Chicken & Waffles to Panzanella Salad and Goober Pie."
Once you have a book, you need a coffee.
Settle down in Kramer's cafe or solarium, or take a 3-minute walk to Dupont Coffee Collective.
This Benefit Corporation brews locally roasted Swing’s Coffee using a La Marzocco Linea espresso machine, with a selection of sweet and savory treats like flaky chocolate croissants and cheese danishes.
Committed to community, the DCC donates 10% of its profits to local food non-profits, fostering connections in a cozy, 1,000-square-foot space with soft Art Deco charm.
DCC is open daily from 7am - 6pm (3pm on Sunday).
It’s a good spot for watching passersby on the corner of Wisconsin and Q.
(A future post will discuss JF Books, a unique Chinese/English bookstore next door to Kramer’s.)
